Position Title: Chief Human Resources Officer
Reports to: Deputy Director
Position Details: Full-time, Exempt, with benefits including PTO, medical benefits, etc.
Salary Range: $110,000-$120,000 Commensurate with Experience

 

Summary

The Chief Human Resources Officer provides primary human resources support for The Samaritan Inn and all employees. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) galvanizing the employee culture as we navigate growth and change, owning best-practice human resources efforts, including cultural awareness and appreciation efforts, setting performance measurement standards and compensation, and progressive recruitment planning. This position offers flexibility in work location, including a hybrid of office and work-from-home options. Key Responsibilities

  • Spearhead a culture of support, growth, and empowerment for an agency that helps homeless individuals gain independence and change their lives
  • Co-lead a nonprofit organization going through exciting phases of growth and development as part of the leadership team
  • Influence progressive policies and procedures, and ensure employees are trained and empowered to “lead from where they stand”
  • Champion a continued culture of equality, purpose, trust, and cooperation.
  • Assess internal needs and work with team leaders to determine future strategies regarding employee engagement and training, making The Samaritan Inn a best-in-class employer
  • Ensure all legal requirements are met according to employment and labor laws in our changing landscape, politically, and culturally
  • Suggest changes and improvements in policies and procedures based on employee and company needs and feedback
  • Research compensation standards set by the industry and market and evaluate salary and compensation structures, including benefits, so that our employees are well compensated for their diligent work
  • Create and own all recruitment plans in accordance with HR methodologies and labor laws, providing best practice advice to the leadership team
  • Oversee HR activities, communications, reports, requests, meetings, training, and documentation
  • Attend and participate in interdepartmental meetings with other organizational leaders and employees
  • Own onboarding standards, exit interviews, and employee climate surveys, ensuring that our employees are heard, valued and appreciated appropriately
  • Create and own a comprehensive benefits package that is beyond competitive with the industry standard
  • Implement HR strategy to build organizational capabilities, performances, and engagement across all departments
  • Create an internal development and training plan for all departments
  • Counsel departmental leaders and supervisors/managers on general employee relations and performance issues and concerns, keep compassion and coaching at the center of our culture of care
  • Build strong relationships with all partners and stakeholders as a trusted advisor
  • Manage employee life-cycle needs, including promotions, resignations, transfers, leaves of absence, and terminations
  • Advise leaders on effective organizational designs and structures to best meet the organization’s needs
  • Special projects as assigned and as advocated for

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Human Resources field
  • 6+ years of professional-level experience, including experience with human resources and/or people management, in positions of increasing responsibility
  • Strong grasp of HR best practices and standard policy and procedure requirements
  • Strong coaching and client consulting skills
  • Experience in leading, supervising and managing others, with a focus on internal cultural awareness
  • Experience in facilitating training and dialogue, including conflict resolution
  • Demonstrates keen analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work and interact with departments throughout an organization
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to execute strategy, including corresponding tactics on a timely basis

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Can regularly work in standard office conditions and climate
  • Regularly works at a computer screen for extended periods of time and occasionally moves around to several different facilities 
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 20 lbs. 
  • Regularly works in a dynamic environment, effectively dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts. 
  • Stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions
